Rapid technical advancements in networks, computing, sensors, and actuators have led to dramatic reduction in cost, size, and power consumption of devices. This led to the rise of smart and connected products or what is popularly referred to as Internet of Things (IoT). They offer exponentially expanding opportunities for newer functionalities and capabilities with signicantly higher reliability. IoT not only transcends traditional product boundaries but is also reshaping boundaries of existing industries.
IoT has completely revolutionized the world — nearly 13 billion things are already connected and it is projected to be more than double by 2020. It is expected that IoT will add US$ 1.7 Trillion value to the global economy by the year 2019. IBM is playing a de_ning role in IoT with building blocks like MQTT, BlueMix, and Cognitive computing with Watson.
This Under Graduate Program in association with IBM is meant to provide details of developing and deploying solutions for the Internet of Things along with regular topics of Electronics & Communication Engineering. It will focus on various IoT building blocks beginning from processing units, sensors, actuators, protocols to software and analytics. Participants will explore all the steps required to create a basic IoT solution using open source low cost devices such as Raspberry Pi, and the cloud-based IBM Watson IoT Platform.
