About the Department

The Department of Education at Mody University of Science and Technology (MUST) is envisioned as a place where future teachers learn not only what to teach, but how to inspire learning. Rooted in the multidisciplinary academic environment of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SLAS), the Department brings together knowledge from sciences, mathematics, psychology, humanities, languages and technology with the art and practice of teaching. Guided by the principles of NEP 2020, it seeks to develop educators who are intellectually curious, compassionate, creative and confident in responding to the diverse needs of learners.

At the heart of the Department is a simple cycle of Learn → Integrate → Experience → Reflect → Grow. Students build a strong foundation in their chosen discipline, understand how learners think and develop, explore contemporary approaches to teaching, and gradually translate their knowledge into meaningful classroom experiences. Engagement with schools, communities and real educational settings forms an important part of this journey, allowing student-teachers to observe, practice, question and improve. Collaboration with faculty across disciplines further encourages them to see connections between subjects rather than treating knowledge as isolated compartments.

The Department of Education serves as the academic home for the Four-Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), including the B.Sc.-B.Ed. programme, bringing disciplinary depth and professional teacher preparation together within a single integrated journey. The aim is to prepare teachers who can explain ideas with clarity, encourage curiosity, use technology thoughtfully, create inclusive learning environments and connect classroom knowledge with everyday life. Through teaching, mentoring, school engagement, educational research and continuous reflection, the Department aspires to nurture teachers who are not merely transmitters of information, but thoughtful educators who can understand their learners, adapt to change and make a lasting difference in the classroom and beyond.
