Overview
Dr. Ushma serves as Fashion Coordinator and Assistant Professor at the School of Design, Mody University of Science and Technology, Lakshmangarh. With more than three years of teaching experience, she is deeply committed to nurturing students’ understanding of both the creative and practical dimensions of the fashion industry.
Her teaching approach emphasises a balanced integration of design thinking, market awareness, and technical knowledge, enabling students to develop thoughtful and innovative design solutions. Her teaching areas include the fashion design process, fashion forecasting, computer-aided design for fashion, retail management, consumer behaviour, visual merchandising, fashion marketing, and brand management.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Ushma is actively engaged in academic research, with more than 19 published research papers. Her work explores contemporary issues and emerging perspectives within fashion and textile studies. Beyond the classroom, she contributes to mentoring students and supporting initiatives that foster creativity, collaboration, and professional growth.

A central focus of her work is sustainable textiles and fashion, emphasising responsible practices that reduce environmental impact while maintaining innovation and functionality in design.
She also examines fashion forecasting and the fashion design process, analysing how trend analysis, consumer insights, and creative methodologies shape contemporary fashion development. Her research further covers retail management, consumer behaviour, visual merchandising, fashion marketing, and brand management, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the fashion ecosystem from both creative and business perspectives.
