EVENT: GUEST LECTURE CUM WORKSHOP

AGENDA: WORLD DNA DAY “WDD-2024”

Date: 25.04.2024 (Thursday)

Time: 10:00 AM-11:00 AM

Venue: ONLINE Zoom Platform

Theme: The World DNA Day (WDD-2024) aims to promote the progress of Biotechnology and industrial development in the world through the introduction of international advanced intelligence in large quantities.

DNA Day is a special day to celebrate the discovery of the DNA double helix and the completion of the Human Genome Project, advancing our understanding of genetics. The importance of World DNA Day 2024 is “Genetic Discoveries: Honouring the Past, Inspiring Tomorrow”. The day aims to promote genetics education and awareness, and to celebrate the discovery of DNA and the completion of the Human Genome Project. Department of Biosciences, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Mody University of Science and Technology celebrated World DNA Day on 25.04.2024 to promote the awareness among scientific community.

WDD was conducted in online mode where almost around 50 participants got joined. In thebeginning of the program, Prof. (Dr.) Jitendra Binwal DEAN SLAS congratulated to all for the celebration of World DNA Day. He mentioned highlights of the program. ThenDr.Navneet Joshi (Coordinator) of the program brief the description of the program and schedule. He demonstrated about the discovery, functions and role of DNA in molecular sciences. Dr.Harish Kumar Dhingra HOD Biosciences & Co-convener of the event deliberated about the current studies going on molecular level and stressed upon the history of DNA with major accomplishments. The Chief guest of the event was Prof.(Dr.) Ashok Kumar (Ex-Vice Chancellor of CSA Agriculture and Technology University, Kanpur/ CSJM University/ DDUGU) who is presently President of Social Research Foundation Kanpur & President of International Society of Life Sciences) who has delivered a marvellous lecture over DNA discovery harvesting its benefit for agriculture, food production and processing. Honorable Sir told the importance of DNA in scientific history, starting with discovery of the Deoxyribonucleic acid double helical structure. He told that DNA is blueprint of life as equivalent to cell as functional unit, it is regarded as genetic unit.Afterwards he spotlighted revolution made by DNA in different applications of molecular sciences including genetics, genome editing, biotechnology and cancer. He also illustrated role of DNA discovery in gene therapy and finishing of Human Genome Project.

The event was attended by all the faculty members and students of various departments of Mody University of Science and technology and other Colleges/Universities. UG and PG students prepared various models over DNA and the best model preparation award was accorded to students of B.Sc. (H) Biotechnology First Year Ms. Asana Prasad and Ms. Shweta Singh.
