About the department

The Department of Biosciences at Mody University offers various programmes at the UG, PG and Ph.D. levels for students from life sciences. The department is well equipped to support Life Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Food & Nutrition, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Botany and Zoology specialisations. Our dedicated faculties impart teaching with strong modules of biological sciences and research in interdisciplinary areas of Modern Biology.

The department has been able to develop excellent, skilled students, especially in the area of Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Food and Nutrition, Botany, Zoology, Psychology and Physiotherapy. We prepare our students for their overall development and growth as future scientists. Many of the pass out students have pursued their studies leading to a Ph.D. in institutes of repute in India, including IIT’s, Delhi University, ITRC, IICB, NDRI, etc. and abroad with fellowships of CSIR and UGC. The department aims to become a premier institution for teaching and research in Biological Sciences. Thirty-two candidates from the department have been successfully awarded a doctoral thesis. A project worth 230 lakhs has also been sanctioned to the department by various funding agencies to carry out research activities, conferences, seminars, etc.

The labs are well equipped with all basic and advanced equipment’s like RT-PCR, Normal and Gradient PCR, Kjeldahl, Protein digestion Unit, Ultra Low Temperature Freezer – Up to -80°C, Plant Growth Chamber Electroporator, Nanodrop, Spectrophotometer, AAS, ELISA Reader, Inverted Microscope, Incubators, CO2 Incubator, Fermenter, Gel Documentation System, LAF, Centrifuge, etc.. They are ideal for modern-day research in the area of biological sciences and other allied fields. The department is actively involved in Plant-Microbe Interactions, Toxicology, Microbial Ecology, Bio-Pesticide Formulations, Food and Nutrition, Biocatalyst, Biotransformation and Physiotherapy areas.

The department has sound laboratory infrastructure, including Biology Laboratory, Molecular Biology & Instrumentation Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, Dietetics Laboratory, Central Instrumentation Facility Laboratory, Research Laboratory, Psychology laboratory, and Physiotherapy Laboratory, with basic to modern instruments, making the department of biosciences strong in teaching and research.
