About the department:
The Department of Forensic Science at Mody University of Science and Technology, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is dedicated to excellence in forensic education, scientific investigation, research, and skill-based training. The department prepares students for careers in crime scene investigation, forensic laboratory analysis, cyber forensics, fingerprint examination, questioned document analysis, forensic biology, toxicology, and other emerging domains of forensic science. With a strong blend of theoretical knowledge, practical exposure, and research orientation, the department aims to produce highly competent forensic professionals ready to serve the criminal justice system, law enforcement agencies, research institutions, and academia.

– Labs and Facilities
The Department of Forensic Science is supported by well-structured laboratory infrastructure that enables coverage of major domains of forensic science through three core facilities: the Forensic Toxicology Lab, Trace Evidence Lab, and Central Instrumentation Facility. Together, these laboratories provide comprehensive practical exposure, analytical training, and research support across both traditional and emerging areas of forensic science.
- Forensic Toxicology Lab
The Forensic Toxicology Lab functions as a wet laboratory and supports practical teaching, training, and research in multiple biological and chemical domains of forensic science. In addition to toxicological examination, this laboratory facilitates work related to forensic biology, serology, and DNA extraction, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in the analysis of biological samples and chemically relevant evidences. The lab plays an important role in developing foundational and applied skills in laboratory-based forensic investigation.
- Trace Evidence Lab
The Trace Evidence Lab serves as a dry laboratory and provides broad coverage of several important branches of forensic science. It supports practical work related to crime scene investigation, forensic anthropology, ballistics, questioned documents, forensic physics, and trace evidence examination. The laboratory is also equipped with different types of microscopes, which are essential for the observation, comparison, and interpretation of physical and trace materials. This lab strengthens student training in evidence recognition, examination, and interpretation across multiple forensic domains.
- Central Instrumentation Facility
The Central Instrumentation Facility enhances the department’s analytical and research capabilities by providing access to advanced scientific instruments used in forensic examination and laboratory investigation. The facility includes instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), PCR, NanoDrop, and UV Spectrophotometer, which support analytical work in toxicology, biological examination, molecular analysis, and instrumental characterization. This facility plays a crucial role in promoting instrument-based learning, research competence, and interdisciplinary forensic applications.
