Department of Chemistry
About the department
The Department of Chemistry is one of the largest full-fledged departments, equipped with sophisticated, state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities. It has four faculty members with extensive postdoctoral experience from leading universities in India. The department focuses on modern research areas such as heterocyclic chemistry, green chemistry, pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, nanomaterial synthesis, coordination chemistry, and materials processing.
The faculty has published over 300 papers and books in reputable national and international journals. The department maintains well-equipped undergraduate, postgraduate, and research laboratories, along with a specialist instrumentation room featuring advanced instruments such as UV-Visible, infrared, and fluorescence spectrophotometers, centrifuges, an ultrasonicator, a rotary evaporator, a thermogravimetric analyser, a microwave oven, and a ball mill.
The department has received sponsored research projects from government agencies, including DST, BRNS, and ACS. The department offers comprehensive UG, PG, and doctoral programmes in chemical sciences, supported by quality teaching and a strong research environment. Departmental programmes are regularly reviewed and updated to align with emerging global trends in chemistry.
The master’s programme in Chemistry is designed to motivate students and provide opportunities to explore diverse areas of the subject. With a strong, employability-focused curriculum at the postgraduate level, graduates have broad career prospects in research, industry, pharmaceuticals, government sectors, and academia. The department encourages active student participation in research, competitions, and conferences through the Tatva Chemical Society (TCS) and the American Chemical Society Student Chapter. The department also has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amoli Organics, a division of Umedica Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., fostering industry–academia collaboration for research, training, and innovation.
