Department of Mathematics
About the department
The Department of Mathematics, part of the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, is dedicated to delivering quality education in mathematical skills and understanding at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The department’s well-qualified and experienced faculty members are actively involved in interdisciplinary research with other university departments such as engineering, commerce, and science. Currently, more than 30 courses are offered at the UG and PG levels, with plans to expand further. Since the academic session of 2016-17, new programmes have been introduced, including B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics and M.Sc. in Mathematics, catering to students eager to pursue higher studies in the discipline. The curriculum is designed to cultivate analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a strong foundation in mathematical concepts, preparing students for careers in academia, research, industry, and other fields where mathematical expertise is valued. The department’s commitment to continuous progress and expansion ensures that students have access to a diverse range of courses and research opportunities, fostering intellectual growth and professional development. By emphasising both theoretical knowledge and practical application, the Department of Mathematics equips graduates with the skills needed to excel in a rapidly evolving academic and professional landscape. In addition, the department has an active Siddham Mathematical Society, which serves as a vibrant platform for student engagement and academic enrichment. The society regularly organises seminars, guest lectures, workshops, mathematical quizzes, and poster presentations to promote a deeper interest in mathematics beyond the classroom.
